Zhejiang Pukang Biotechnology Co.,Ltd. is located by the picturesque West Lake. It is a high-tech company founded in 1991. With technical support from Zhejiang Academy of Medical Science, it is mainly engaged in the production of Live Attenuated Hepatitis A Vaccine small volume injection and freeze-dried powder injections.

Live Attenuated Hepatitis A Vaccine, an internationally leading technical result, was successfully developed in 1988 after 10-odd years' efforts of a team headed by Mao Jiangsen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the president of Zhejiang Pukang Biotechnology Co.,Ltd. It won the State Invention Prize and three state invention patents. Pukang has devoted itself to the control and elimination of hepatitis A prevalence. Since the marketing of hepatitis A vaccine in 1992, people all over the country have been benefited from it, with the incidence of hepatitis A decreased for years in succession. The effective control of the wide prevalence of hepatitis A in China is greatly owed to the contribution of Pukang.

In its process of development, the company won the concern and support from the central and provincial government leaders who paid many inspections to the company. It was granted medals at national, provincial and ministerial levels. The production of hepatitis A vaccine was appraised by over 400 academicians as one of the Top 10 science news in 1995.

Pukang has a staff of more than 100, among whom professionals with senior and intermediate titles account for 22.4% and 24% respectively, and 70% have receive at least junior college and polytechnic education. It owns an independent R&D department and has spent big money in plant building reconstruction and equipment upgrading, with world-advanced production and inspection equipment. In Oct. 2001 it passed GMP certification.

Pukang became a stock limited company in March 2000 with the approval of Zhejiang Provincial Government. It strives to become a world-class vaccine R & D center, with is efforts in technical, product and management renovation.
